Wood Occupations Site Carpentry Advanced Apprenticeship Level 3 at Bedford College

Course description

This advanced, one year apprenticeship will provide you with additional knowledge and ability you will need to undertake more complex work in the carpentry industry. You will learn how to erect more complex roofing, be able to operate a range of fixed/portable machinery and have an understanding of how construction site are managed. Apprenticeships are work-based training programmes: you work and get paid to gain industry qualifications. This course will combine the practical hands-on experience of the workplace with the knowledge and understanding gained through a College course. This Apprenticeship will take one year to complete.

Entry requirements

You must be employed for a minimum of 30 hours per week in a relevant job role and have a Carpentry Level 2 Diploma or Apprenticeship.


The practical elements of this course will consist of on-going training and assessment, with an end-of-course synoptic test. The theory elements will be assessed through progress tests, assignments, unit tests and an end of course final exam.

Future opportunities

Apprenticeships train you in the skills that employers want, so when you’ve finished you can carry on working, and potentially get promoted. You can also progress on to the Technical and Professional Construction Level 3 or other related courses.
