History at St Chads Catholic and Church of England High School

Course content

This course will enable you to learn the following skills:How to interpret and evaluate pieces of information (sources);How to communicate and apply your knowledge;How to describe and analyse the key features of the period studied;Critical thinking and problem solving. This history course will help candidates develop a variety of skills, such as interpretation, analysis, evaluation and communication of information, that will be useful in a wide range of jobs or in a further study of the subject. It will enable candidates to develop a knowledge and understanding of past events and periods, and to explore the key features and characteristics of those periods.


There are three components to be assessed: two question papers and coursework, all of which are compulsory and are sat at the end of the course. The question papers are untiered. For Paper 1, candidates study the Core (international relations), together with one Study in Depth chosen from a range of four. Paper 2 involves a sources-based investigation of an historical issue taken from the British Depth Study. Coursework consists of two assignments. These can be on one or two coursework units and must cover content that is different from that studied for the question papers.
