Media Studies AS/A2 at Honiton Community College

Course description

AS Content: Among other things, you will learn how to deconstruct classic and contemporary film, dissect soaps and sitcoms, study print and broadcast news, and analyse advertisements. While embracing theory (Barthes, Todorov, Propp). You will will make image and print media texts of your choice. There will be opportunities for visits. A2 Content: With growing sophistication, you will interpret representations (gender, class, ethnicity etc.) in moving image or print texts, and anaylse genre (e.g. musicals). Students will deconstruct complex media texts by applying key concepts (genre, audience, ideology etc.) to this analysis. You will produce a media text of your choice.

Entry requirements

5 GCSE passes (grade C, or above) including a minimum of C grade in English, as well as a sincere enthusiasm for Media!
