Performing Arts BTEC Level 3 Foundation Diploma/Extended Diploma at Exeter College

Course description

This course supplies the knowledge and occupational expertise to seek employment in the Performing Arts Industry. In your first year you will study the 90-credit Diploma progressing to the Extended Diploma in your second year.

You will be expected to work outside class time on your assignments and attendance/participation at live performances and workshops is also compulsory. You will explore a diverse range of practical, research and academic units. You will also take performances to other venues, such as local schools. 

The course is project based. Working as one complete performance company you will develop, rehearse and perform a diverse range of work in front of live audiences.

Course content

The course offers a broad and exciting range of practical and theoretical study combining acting, dance and singing disciplines. You will gain skills in how to create performances for live audiences exploring both performance and production roles.

 

Entry requirements

You need at least five GCSEs at Grade C (including English Language) and you must also be able to work effectively in a group. You will be invited to a selection day, to participate in an all day group workshop.

Assessment

 There is a continuous assignment assessment process involving practical, research and presentation work. Written work is involved in the form of evaluations, individual process journals, investigative and research reports.

Financial information

You will need to have workshop clothing (black t-shirt and leggings/ tracksuit bottoms), for practical work. We charge an annual, non refundable £60 course administration fee. This will cover all compulsory theatre visits, workshops and venue hire.

 

Future opportunities

There is an opportunity for internal progression on to Exeter College's Foundation Degree in Acting and Theatre. You can also progress into employment in the Performing Arts and other industries, or to university or drama school. Previous students have progressed onto course at Italia Conti Academy Of Theatre Arts, The Academy Of Live And Recorded Arts, Millennium  Stage School,  Central School Of Speech and Drama,  Reading Repertory College,  York University, Southampton University and Bath Spa University.
