Art & Design BTEC National Certificate and Diploma Level 3 (Marple Campus) at Cheadle & Marple Sixth Form College

Course description

The BTEC National Diploma in Art and Design is a two year art course equivalent to 2 A levels. It will provide you with opportunities to sample a wide range of specialist areas and produce a portfolio that will help you to progress onto study at Higher Education.

Course content

During the first year, lessons will include 2D, 3D, Textiles, Graphics, Print, Photography and Contextual Studies.

Entry requirements

  • At least a grade C in GCSE Art and Design or a Merit grade from a Level 2 Art qualification.
  • Commitment, enthusiasm and motivation to the subject
  • An open mind and a willingness to be experimental and creative.


Assessment is continuous throughout the year. There will be a number of projects for each subject area, usually between 6 and 8 weeks in length. At the end of each project, you will receive written feedback and suggestions for how to improve your work in the next assignment. During the summer term of Year 2, you will work on a Final Major Project on a theme of your own choice which will be displayed in the End of Year Exhibition and assessed.

Future opportunities

The majority of students choose to progress onto Higher Education institutions (university). We have an excellent record of supporting students in gaining a place at HE institutions.
