English Language and Literature A level at Accrington and Rossendale College
English Language and Literature is a stimulating, varied and particularly useful subject at A-level. The course is an excellent choice for students who have enjoyed both areas of English at GCSE level and who are just as interested in non-fiction and non-literary writing as they are in great plays and novels.

As part of a Full A Level Programme – 4 x A*-B grades at GCSE. Students must have a minimum of a B grade in English.
As Part of a BTEC Options Programme – 5 x A-C grades at GCSE including Maths and English.
At AS the subject will be assessed by exam only. At A-level the subject will be assessed by 80% examination and 20% coursework.
English Language and Literature is highly regarded by universities and can lead to a degree course in English or in a range of other subjects. A recent survey indicated that English graduates enter careers varying from teaching to management and marketing; to journalism and the arts.
