Media OCR Cambridge level 3 Technical Extended Certificate at Park View Community School

Course description

The Cambridge Technical Extended Certificate in digital media (OCR) offers exciting opportunities for real, hands on media experience. As well as learning about the media, you will also plan and create media products, for example, a music video or organise a community media project with an outside charity. All in all it offers excellent skills and experience for the world of work and higher education.

Entry requirements

You will need to be interested in the media and particularly in developing the skills necessary for success in the subject. You must be prepared to do a combination of practical and written work and an external exam.

A BTEC level 2 in media is desirable but not essential to do this course, but we do strongly recommend a GCSE English qualification at grade C or above as you will need good communication skills both written and otherwise.

Do not worry if you have no prior media experience – interest and enthusiasm are the main indicators of success in this course.

Future opportunities

You may choose to proceed to a higher course in media, perhaps focussing on a particular skill or area. You might also progress into a job in the media industry, perhaps in the practical side in an area such as sound or lighting.

The skills you develop will be valued in any workplace as you will develop your ability to work independently and as part of a team to meet deadlines and to take responsibility for your own work.

You will be able to approach employers with practical portfolio and experience from this course, which will put you ahead of the competition.
