Music Btec National Extended Certificate Level 3 at Alexandra Park School

Course description

You will study a broad range of areas associated with the music industry including performing, composing, music theory, music software, event planning and management, professional practice and job roles in the music industry. You will take part in research activities, written work (reports, proposals, evaluations), practical music making (solo and ensemble), plan for, develop and stage a live performance, compose a piece of music to a brief and learn to use music software to record your compositions and produce a score.

Course content

This is a two-year course consisting of 3 mandatory units (chosen by the exam board) and 1 optional unit (chosen by your teacher according to the abilities and interests of the group). Two units will be studied on each year of the course. This course takes place in one option block and is broadly equivalent to on e A level. It could be studied alongside the BTEC Subsidiary Diploma in Music Technology (Production) or AS/ A2 Music. Each unit is assessed through one or more tasks and the evidence you produce for assessment could include: videos and recordings, log books, reports and evaluations.

Entry requirements

You will need to have studied either GCSE music, BTEC Level 2 Music and/or have strong performance skills on an instrument or voice.

Unit 5 - Mandatory - Professional Practice in the Music Industry

Future opportunities

In addition to performance related opportunities and wider work within the music industry, the course can lead to further study on music and performing arts degree courses, music therapy courses and career opportunities in areas such as music teaching and peripatetic teaching.
