Level 3 Extended Diploma in Healthcare Cadet Programme at Ashton Sixth Form College
During this two year course you will spend three days in college and two days in a NHS placement. You will have the opportunity to experience many healthcare professions through numerous placements in a variety of wards and departments. These may include: Maternity, Surgery, Orthopaedics, Paediatrics, Theatres, Physiotherapy and Radiotherapy, to name but a few.
In college you will complete 18 units that will count towards your Extended Diploma Qualification. This course is the equivalent of three A Levels.
The course is assignment based and is continually assessed. Your grades are recorded throughout the year and appear on your diploma. Your progress is constantly monitored and any problems are dealt with as they occur during sessions or in tutorials. Individual action plans are arranged during your tutorials to enable you to plan more effectively.
As well as completing a range of placements in various NHS departments this course will cover topics areas needed for health care courses at University such as; anatomy and physiology, physiological disorders, communication, public health, caring for children and young people and development through life stages. These topics will generate coursework which will count towards your final grade.
Minimum 5 Grade Cs at GCSE
Grade C - GCSE English Language
Grade C - GCSE Maths
Grade C - GCSE Science / Merit - BTEC Science
Separate interview required as only 20 places available
Many cadets move into professional careers within the NHS including Paramedic Practice, Physiotherapy, Radiography, Occupational Therapy, Midwifery and all branches of nursing. There is also the opportunity of gaining employment in the NHS in a variety of support roles.
