BTEC Level Nationals in IT at Swakeleys School for Girls

Course description

The Edexcel BTEC Level 3 Nationals in IT has been developed to provide an alternative route to achieving ALevels. The duration of the course is either one year to gain an equivalent to A level award or two years for the full 2 A Level equivalent qualification.

Course content

You must have a real interest and enthusiasm for practical ICT but equally important is the willingness to involve yourself in understanding the theory that underpins practical work. You should be able to handle a large amount of coursework and be very good at meeting deadlines. Your organisation skills will be tested to the full. A sound command of English is necessary and a willingness to undertake some numerical work.

Entry requirements

Grade A* – B at GCSE or a minimum of a Merit equivalent.. A grade C in English and Maths is also required.

Unit 2: Computer Systems [10 credits, mandatory]

Unit 4: Impact of the use of IT on business systems [10 credits, optional]

Unit 8: E Commerce [10 credits, optional]

Unit 6: Software Design and Development [10 credits, optional]

Unit 28: Website Production [10 credits, optional]

Unit 42: Advanced Spread sheet Skills [10 credits, specialist]

Unit 3: Information Systems [10 credits, mandatory]

Unit 14: Event Driven Programming [10 credits, optional]

Unit 7: Organisational Systems [10 credits, mandatory]

Unit 19: Database Skills [10 credit, mandatory]

Unit 30: Digital Graphics [10 credits, mandatory]

Future opportunities

This course enables students to progress to University. The rapidly changing roles, job titles and career opportunities within IT mean it is essential to obtain information from IT to maintain an up-to-date view. The course could also lead into different pathways of employment within the IT industry or in an area that involves extensive use of computers.
