ICT Level 3 National Certificate at Lincoln Castle Academy
By choosing the OCR Level 3 National Certificate in ICT you are taking a step into one of the most exciting areas of study. As a student of ICT, you will be at the forefront of a field which is ever-changing, ever-advancing and as cutting edge as it gets. ICT is an incredibly diverse subject, ranging from multimedia to web design.
The role and contribution of communication technology to business, the application of a presentation style to document creation and document and computer security in the workplace are just three of the skills learned during completion of Unit 1. Skills covered in Unit 2 include planning as part of a group, investigating the use of ICT tools to support collaborative working and carrying out research for a group project. Unit 3 skills include defining statistical problems, collecting data, using spreadsheets to store and analyse data, and methods of data presentation. Whilst completing Unit 4 students will be able to specify project requirements, design solutions and author an interactive media product. Unit 24 will facilitate research skills and Unit 20 will develop website design. Business, Travel and Tourism, Media or any subject requiring research or presentation skills will complement this subject.
Students should have a ‘Merit’ grade at OCR Level 2 in ICT or BTEC Level 2. It is preferable that students have at least 'C' grades in English and Maths. Students will be required to plan, analyse and evaluate their performance so, as with all ‘A’ Levels, a considerable amount of writing is involved.
The OCR National qualification is designed to give you the knowledge and practical skills you need to study the subject further into higher education or gain employment in an ICT-related career. It attracts UCAS points, like any other ‘A’ Level. Students following this course are looking to study at University, including courses in web design, computer engineering, computer gaming, teaching and business systems. Students also use this qualification for entry in employment related to business administration, finance, retail or trainee management positions.
