Physical Education A Level at Consett Academy

Course description

This course is for anyone who enjoys a high-level of involvement in Physical Education and Sport.

Over the two years students will develop their practical performance skills in a choice of sports and activities, as well as studying in depth the theoretical aspects of elite sports performance.

Course content

Throughout the course students will study the theoretical aspects of sports performance, covering aspects of anatomy, physiology and psychology, the acquisition of movement and skill and socio- cultural issues in sport as well as psychology.

The course also assesses students in their practical performance in at least two sports.

Entry requirements

GCSE PE with at least a grade B (a good grade in Biology would be beneficial).

Also desirable: representative honours at club, district, county or national level in at least one sport as either, player/performer, official or leader.

Future opportunities

A level Physical Education is a good academic qualification if applying for a degree in Physical Education or Sports Science.

It is also useful if considering a career in coaching, the forces, physiotherapy, police, sport administration, sport development, sports journalism, sports retailing, sport therapy or teaching.
