International Baccalaureate - Music at St Mary Magdelene Academy

Course description

This course is studied as part of the International Baccalaureate Diploma programme. The Music course is ideal if you are passionate about music and want to develop your skills and understanding to an advanced level. The course covers a broad spectrum of musical styles and genres, encouraging you to engage with music from different times, places and cultures. It allows plenty of opportunity for you to pursue you own personal interests increasing your practical skills both in composing and performing. You will learn to work both independently and collaboratively to create and perform music. You will develop investigative and thinking skills to allow you to critically appraise the music you study and develop techniques for comparative analysis of different pieces of music. All students will study musical perception and analysis. If you are studying for the Higher Level you will also study solo performance and composition, whilst those studying for the Standard Level will study solo performance, group performance or composition.
