A Level Drama at Hardenhuish School

Course description

We run a varied course, exploring and studying a range
of practitioners, styles and texts. We select contrasting plays for
study including the latest cutting-edge playwrights such as Polly
Stenham (Tusk Tusk) and Jez Butterworth (Jerusalem), and groups
such as Kneehigh Theatre (Tristan & Yseult), who we also watch
in live performance; indeed theatre visits to Bath, Bristol &
London are very popular.
We choose theatrical, powerful ensemble work for group
performance, and recent productions such as The Love of the
Nightingale, Equus and The Bacchae have been very well received
and have become major attractions in the School calendar. This
year’s devised pieces, based on dystopias, made for compelling
viewing, so much so that we took them to the Edinburgh Fringe
Festival under the umbrella title Social Husbandry Inc, where we
received excellent reviews.
