Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma in Sport Development, Coaching and Fitness. at The Open Academy
The Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma in partnership with Wroxham FC involves the application of knowledge and technical skills in practical fitness and coaching environments. It offers a hands-on approach to learning for students interested in either working in sport-related industries in the future or progressing to higher education. The Diploma is a 2-year course.
The course comprises 6 hours per week of practical Football Training with Wroxham FCUEFA licensed coaches and 7 hours per week of BTEC Sport theory, leading to the BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Sport (Development, Coaching and Fitness) (QCF) Qualification. You will also have 3 hours per week of Match Time (including match preparation and travel), and 5 hours per week of an additional Level 3 course. Additionally, students will be given the opportunity to re-take English and Maths GCSEs if appropriate.
The course provides a unique link between Wroxham FC and Open Academy. Students are given the opportunity to work with Wroxham’s professionally qualified coaches and play and train according to the Wroxham FC philosophy. Players of a high standard will be given the opportunity to continue their development within Wroxham’s 1st, u21 and u18 teams.
Level 3 BTEC Diplomas are valued by employers and higher education establishments. You could progress to any sport-related degree amongst others. If you wanted to move to employment straight away, you could work as a sports coach, fitness instructor, analyst or physiotherapist.
Written assignments are the primary type of assessment including projects, research tasks and evaluation of performance. We are looking for students who are expected to achieve a minimum of 5 GCSEs at A*-C this summer and who have a strong aptitude for football.
