Art and Design Applied AS/A Level at Farnham College
Art offers a unique way to observe the world. It allows you to put your own ideas and experiences into action by using a variety of media.
AS and A2 have impressive records of success, with many students gaining good grades. Students achievements are widely recognised and celebrated through displays around the College. A high proportion of students progress onto Art related courses.
Successful course benefiting from well equipped, specialist art studios, with integrated PC facilities, that includes a graphic design suite, photography darkroom and MAC suite .The course is suitable for those students who want to explore their creativity, develop new skills and investigate the work of other artists.
- For the AS in Year 1, you will learn a range of skills and methods and experiment with different personal approaches and you will find out about the work of other artists.
- For A2 in Year 2, your skills and interests will be developed through discussion with your teacher.
- You will build a portfolio for art and design applications. This could be in Fine art, Graphic Design, Multimedia Design, Spatial Design, Textiles or Fashion Design.
5 GCSEs at grade C or above in Maths and English, plus grade B or above in Art or an Art related subject.
Continuous assessment - 60% is assessed as coursework and 40% is assessed externally set assignments (with 5 hour final outcome for AS and 15 hour final outcome for A2).
You will be required to provide a range of basic art materials to include pens, pencils, brushes, paint, pastels etc. Also an A1 portfolio will be essential to store your work as well as sketchbooks.
The cost of these materials will be approximately £50 in As and £50 in A2.
University and art foundation courses
All 16-19 year olds on full-time programmes will be required to retake GCSE English and Maths or to undertake Functional Skills, if they have not already attained the equivalent of a GCSE grade C in these subjects, every year of their course, until they complete their studies.
