Skills for Progression Deaf Academy at Walsall College
This course is for Deaf/deaf students who wish to improve their English and Maths skills, to build their confidence and self-esteem in subjects that relate to everyday life skills for work, personal and social development, as well as develop their knowledge of deaf culture and history.

Assessment is on-going throughout the academic year and students will complete portfolio/in-house worksheets to develop their knowledge and skills. Portfolio work will require the students to complete specific units to demonstrate their abilities to meet
the criteria. Assessment methods used by tutors assess their abilities through questions and answers, discussion, observation, real life scenarios, group work, practical and written work, with written and signed feedback, depending on the subject being taught.
For Functional Skills, students are required to undertake a paper-based examination.
This course is intended to develop skills towards a future vocational pathway in Further Education, leading ultimately in the future to employability. Onto a vocational course (linked to the appropriate level of Functional Skills qualification they achieve and required for a vocational course). Possible voluntary or paid employment.
