Expressive Arts (GCSE) at St Columba's Catholic Boys' School
This NEW course provides the opportunity for boys to work across, and integrate the traditionally separate disciplines of Drama, Music and Dance. Boys will use their creative imagination to learn about the Expressive Arts process. You will be able to use your creative imagination to learn about the Expressive Arts process and how art forms connect and enhance each other by exploring and analysing your ideas through practical work. This subject would be useful if you want to progress to further study, for example in a Performing Arts qualification. You will study: * Atmosphere; * Audience; * Structure and Shape (the way a piece of expressive art is put together); * Narrative (story or something to say being told); * Motif (the dominant idea in the art form); * Genre and Symbol. You will learn the following skills: * How to communicate ideas to a particular audience and the interaction of art forms; * How to plan, consider alternatives and refine and shape ideas; * How to develop your critical skills – through evaluation, analysis and reflection; * Creative thinking. Assessment: The examination covers the full range of grades from G to A*. There are three aspects to your assessment, two pieces of coursework and a terminal examination.
