*Hospitality & Catering GCSE (Double Award) at The Westwood Academy (West Coventry Sixth Form)

Course content

A two year course where candidates develop a range of skills for both food preparation and food service. The candidates will gather knowledge on all aspects of the hospitality industry, working towards planning their own events and experiencing work within the hospitality and catering industry.


There are four units of study to complete:

Unit 1 What is the hospitality and catering industry (1)
Unit 2 Event based functions
Unit 3 Work related experiences or comparative study
Unit 4 What is the hospitality and catering industry (2)


This GCSE is assessed through coursework and external examination, Coursework accounts for 60% of a candidate's final mark and this comes as two pieces:

1) Planning and running an event (students have to complete two of their own events.)
2) A final piece of coursework based on work experience or a comparative study.

The candidates will sit two exams to make up the remaining 40% of their grade these exams can be sat in either January or June.
