Animal Care - C&G Level 2 Diploma at East Durham College
You will cover a mixture of theory and practical topics and get hands-on experience working in the Houghall animal unit. The unit houses a variety of animals from rabbits and guinea pigs, exotics, small 'furries', cats, dogs and ferrets. You will also have opportunity to learn new skills working on the farm at Houghall with a variety of different breeds of sheep, pigs and cows.
Topics covered in the course include: work experience and safe working practices, animal nursing, farm livestock, kennels and cattery, and small animal husbandry.
You will be assessed throughout the course with written assignments and practical assessments.
If you have been a UK resident for the past 3 years and are under the age of 19 on the 31st August, you will not usually need to pay any course fees.
Following successful completion of this course you may gain employment in the land-based sector as a kennel assistant, assistant dog groomer, or retail assistant in a pet store. Progression to an apprenticeship in the animal care industry may also be an option to enable you to gain more experience working hands-on.
Progression options following successful completion of this course may enable you to progress into an apprenticeship in animal care or the level 3 subsidiary diploma in animal management course.
