Engineering Intermediate Apprenticship in Improving Operational Performance at NITAL

Course description

This Engineering Intermediate Apprenticeship has been devised for candidates new to engineering and needing to learn fundamental elements. The programme is suitable for Manufacturing Engineers, Fitters, Maintenance Engineers, Service Engineers, Electrical/Electronic Engineers, Technicians and Design Engineers.

Course content

The programme will consist of Performing Engineering Operations (PEO) NVQ, Award in Industrial Environment Awareness Technical Certificate, Functional Skills English, Maths and ICT, Employment Rights and Responsibilities (ERR) and Personal Learning and Thinking Skills (PLTS).

Entry requirements

Ideally GCSE Grade C and above Mathematics, English and Science, ICT and an engineering qualification may strengthen your application.


This NVQ will be assessed in the workplace through portfolio of evidence, Technical Certificate is a work book and online test. Functional skills will be portfolio, online tests and discussion. 

Financial information

Those individuals aged 16 to 18 will be eligible for full programme funding, those aged 19+ will be part-funded.

Future opportunities

Candidates achieveing all aims and objectives may be given the opportunity to progress to an Advanced Apprenticeship in an engineering discipline providing job role, skills and knowledge are developing sufficiently.
