Geography A-Level at Wymondham High School
THE GEOGRAPHY COURSE IS DESIGNED to highlight the main issues and concepts that students are likely to encounter in their current and future lives both at a local and global scale; for example climate change; and future energy supply. Students will develop informed opinions about such issues, as well as a wide-ranging knowledge of both physical and human geography. The course will give students the opportunity to become equipped to make better-informed decisions whilst being sensitive to a wide range of viewpoints and challenges. With climate change and sustainability forming the background to the news on a daily basis, there has never been a more relevant and exciting time to study Geography at A level!
Wymondham High prefers students taking this course to have a good GCSE in Geography, however, we will consider learners who have completed other GCSEs successfully and would like to re-kindle their passion for Geography by studying it at AS and A2.
Geography is a well-respected university subject. Some Geography graduates go on to work in Geographical fields, such as coastal management, hydrology, environmental management, development workers for NGOs. Some indirect career paths see a qualification in Geography as an advantage (e.g. civil engineering, town planning, population planning, consultancy work). For many students the career opportunities are very wide, as employers value the skills that Geography degrees equip graduates with, skills such as: communication, project management, analytical skills, problem-solving, team work and the ability to work independently. Geography graduates have one of the best records for finding work after graduating (www.bbc.co.uk/ news/education-11652845).
