Computer Science AS/A Level at Northallerton School & Sixth Form College
Computer Science is a practical subject where students will apply the acdemic principles learned in the classroom to real world systems. It is an intensely creative subject that combines invention and excitement, that can look at the natural world through a digital prism. Computer Science develops computational thinking, helping students to develop the skills to solve problems, design systems and understand the power and limits of human and machine intelligence.
A minimum of 5 GCSE'S or above (including English and Maths Grade 6 or above)
At AS, students are assessed by a terminal examination with each unit representing 50% of the final grade.
At A2 students are assessed by two examinations each representing 40% of the final grade and a programming project representing 20% of the final grade.
A level Computer Science will give students a clear progression into higher education to study a wide range of computing related topics. The course was designed in consultation with members of the British Computer Society. Computing at Schools and top universities. It also gives a solid foundation for a career in programming or other computing-related careers.
