Vocational Steps in Public Services at Middlesbrough College
The course is designed to prepare learners for a career in uniform. Skills learnt are essential life skills that all uniform public services are looking for in their candidates. These include; Self-discipline, Team work, Organisational skills, Time management, Safety awareness, drill and turn out and bearing (appearance).
The course is designed to cover a number of short qualifications. The first qualification is Entry Level and the units covered are as follows: Unit 1 – Searching for a job Unit 3 – Health and Fitness for the Public Services Unit 4 – Public Service Group Project Level 1 Award consists of the following units: Unit 5 – Public Service Careers Unit 6 – Improving fitness for the Public Services Other course are as follows: Sport and Active Leisure Exercise Studies Nutrition
Students do not require any qualifications but must have a satisfactory school report and have a good attendance record. "If you do not have a Grade A to C in English and/or Maths, you will be required to continue studying these subjects as part of your Study Programme."
Students will be assessed through unit theory and practical assignment, which are computer based and electronically submitted. Photographic evidence can also be used.
The College Careers Service is available to all our students. We can help you when deciding which course or option you wish to take. During your course we ensure you develop employability skills and gain relevant experience. We provide information, advice and support when completing your course and progressing to work or going into higher education. When applying for University we can provide support with the UCAS application and Student Finance. Level 1 Award students can progress onto the level 1 Certificate Public Service Course or apply for the service of their choice.
