Music Technology Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma at Mid Cheshire College

Course description

The music industry is one of the largest industries in the UK and is hugely important to the economy, employing thousands of people behind the scenes. Using the College’s pro-audio equipment, you will learn to record, sequence and sample.

The tutors, who themselves are professional musicians, will guide you through the process of generating and realising your musical ideas. At the end of your course you will undertake a major studio production project.

Course content

This course is part of a study programme to provide learners with a coherent and enriching curriculum which will provide them with the academic, social and employability skills to progress to further or higher education or employment.

The content of the study programme is designed to broaden the learner experience beyond the main qualification of study.

The key theme of study programmes at level 3 will be the development of personal, social and enterprise skills to enable progression to higher levels of study or employment. All learners will undertake a work placement as well as projects that help to develop employability skills.

As well as your core qualification you will study GCSE or Functional Skills in English or Maths plus English and maths development as part of the core qualification.

Learners will also undertake personal progress planning and pastoral education.

Entry requirements

4 GCSEs at grade A* - C or equivalent. You will also be required to attend an audition.


You will be asked to complete a number of creative projects that demonstrate your level of ability. In addition to this, you will be asked to complete written assignments and take part in presentations.

Future opportunities

You will be able to progress on to a related degree, such as the Foundation Degree in Commercial Music Technology. There are many exciting and diverse employment prospects in the music industry. Careers can range from sound recording technician to the management of music technology for the entertainment community.
