Religious Studies A Level at Accrington St Christopher's Church of England High School

Course description

Religious Studies/Theology is one of the oldest academic disciplines there is. As such, there is an unprecedented depth to scholarly research, and a fascinating richness of thought on any given topic. We would love to help you to formulate your own thoughts to contribute to the debate.

Course content

AS Modules -

 
Students will be required to study the following 2 units, each carrying 25% of the final mark: 
  • Introduction to Religion in Contemporary Society
  • Introduction to Religion and Philosophy

A2 Modules -
 
One of the two units followed to AS-level will be studied to A2 Level. Unit titles are as above, but 'Introduction to' becomes 'Studies in'.
 
Additionally, there will be a 'seen' essay title released in the January of the year of examination, and examined in the Spring. This is a 'stand alone' unit entitled 'Religion and Human Experience.'

Entry requirements

An open mind, a willing spirit and a teachable heart. There are no specific requirements in addition to the requirements for admission set by St Christopher's. GCSE RS is not an essential pre-requisite.

Assessment

There are 4 units: 2 at AS and 2 at A2, each carrying 25% of the final mark. Each unit is assessed by examination, the final unit's exam question is 'seen' prior to the date of examination.
