Physics A Level at John Hampden Grammar School
Physics is taught at A-level through a combination of tutorials, self-study and practical laboratory work. The syllabus, OCR Physics A, offers a traditional approach to modern physics. It is designed to enable students to gain comprehensive subject knowledge in a challenging, stimulating and varied environment.
Topics covered during the two year course include: kinematics, waves, electrical circuits, electric and magnetic fields, radioactivity, and the basics of thermal physics and quantum theory. The course also has a large practical component.
Our entry requirements are as follows – all of these requirements must be met:
- A minimum of 7 GCSE full course passes at a C grade or higher
- A minimum GCSE total points score of 344 based on the best 8 full course separate subject GCSE passes
- A minimum C grade in English Language and Mathematics
- B in GCSE Physics or BB in Additional Science (A/A* grade in physics is strongly recommended as well as A/A* in mathematics)
