Media A Level at Netherhall School
Are you influenced? Media combines practical work in video production with the study of a range of issues, theories and debates concerning the role of media in society and media organisations. The principal media covered are film, television, newspapers, magazines and the advertising industry. You will learn to decode media texts, how media institutions work and how you and society are influenced by them. Exam Board: AQA 2570
There are 2 equally weighted units in AS:
1. Investigating Media— Assessed through an exam
2.Creating Media— Assessed through Coursework
1. Critical Perspectives– assessed through an exam
2. Research and produce— assessed through coursework
You should be keen on working with technology and have an interest in the world around you and how society can be influenced by the media. Multimedia GCSE is a completely different course so it is NOT essential that you have any previous experience in this subject, just an enthusiasm for team-based practical work.
Many Colleges and Universities offer courses and degrees in Media Studies and related subjects such as Advertising, Marketing, Publishing, Broadcasting or Film Production. Courses with English, Performing Arts or Psychology components are also progression routes for students with media qualifications.
