Course description

In today’s rapidly advancing world where the use of the planet’s resources is to be considered carefully, designers are rising to the exciting challenge of rethinking and redesigning products in a more sustainable way. Advances in modern materials and technologies are increasing the possibilities and opportunities to create products that are innovative in new and imaginative ways.

Course content

A level Product design is a natural progression from GCSE Graphics and offers students the opportunity to build upon knowledge and understanding of the core principles of design and technology. Topics such as the physical and mechanical properties of materials, design and sustainability, anthropometrics and ergonomics, and life cycle analysis will be covered. Students will design their own products, using 2D and 3D CAD drawing packages, before using a combination of hand skills and CAM to manufacture them to a high quality
