Further Mathematics at St Mary's Catholic School

Course description

Further Mathematics involves a more in depth study of the subject. As well as studying the Core modules for mathematics, students will study a variety of the applied modules in greater detail as well as modules in further pure mathematics.

Studying Further Mathematics boosts students' performance at AS/A2 level Mathematics. Further Mathematics qualifications are prestigious and are strongly welcomed by universities for numerate disciplines.

Those who study this subject are demonstrating a strong commitment to their studies and overwhelmingly find it enjoyable, stimulating, rewarding and an empowering experience.

Course content

Any of FP1, FP2, FP3 and FP4 may be studied.

The applied modules will again depend upon the specialism of the teachers and may include mechanics modules (M1 - M3), Decision modules (D1) or Statistic modules (S1 -S2). In total 3 modules are studied at AS level and 6 studied for A2 level.

Entry requirements

A in Mathematics (A* is preferred).


3 modular examinations at AS level. 3 modular examinations at A2 level - some in January, some in June.

Further information

Further Mathematics can only be taken in addition to Mathematics.
