Welsh Baccalaureate at Grŵp Llandrillo Menai
Grŵp Llandrillo Menai has vast experience in delivering the Welsh Baccalaureate and views it as an exciting qualification that adds a valuable dimension to subjects and courses. It encourages independence and adds real life experiences to the curriculum.
By combining personal development skills with established qualifications such as A Levels and vocational awards, the Welsh Baccalaureate is a wider award that is valued by both employers and universities. It offers breadth and flexibility, and students have discovered that combining all the elements of the Welsh Baccalaureate contributes to improvements in their overall achievements.
The new post-16 Welsh Baccalaureate is available at Foundation (Level 1) and National (Level 2). The main focus of the award is to enhance the learner’s employability skills and awareness of current issues. The award combines traditional qualifications with the core award which consists of GCSE and Levels 1 & 2 vocational qualifications, and four challenges:
- Enterprise & Employment Challenge
- Global Citizenship challenge
- Community Challenge
- Individual Project
The new Welsh Baccalaureate core within the Advanced Diploma is graded on a four point scale A* - C with the final grade being determined by the learner’s performance in combination of the four challenges as above, GCSE, and A level or equivalent qualifications. It is widely included in offers from universities across the UK, providing formal recognition that the experiences and skills gained are valuable when studying at degree level and beyond.
The Welsh Baccalaureate is offered as an integrated package with the majority of the College’s full-time programmes at Levels 1-3, so you benefit from as much experience and added value as possible throughout your programme.
