Hospitality and Events BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma at South Downs College

Course description

This course is a mixture of theory and practical work related subjects, aimed mostly at 16-19 year olds who are interested in a career in hospitality and events at supervisory or management level.

The course will provide you with a very broad knowledge and skills base needed to seek employment and further training in a wide variety of jobs and careers in the hospitality industry, or to progress into higher education.

Course content

Throughout the two years you will be exploring and experiencing a wide range of units through a blend of practical and theory activities, covering most aspects of the hospitality and events industry including:

  • Events Organisation
  • Personal Selling and Promotional Skills
  • Small Business Enterprise
  • Food & Drink Service
  • Planning and Managing an Event
  • Customer Service and Customer Service Supervision
  • Exploring European and World Food

Other units include

  • Investigating the Hospitality Industry
  • Financial Control
  • Front Office Operations
  • Personal and Professional Development
  • and Human Resources.

You will also take part in structured work experience to support your studies in year one.

 

Entry requirements

You should have achieved at least five GCSEs at grade C or above, including English or Maths or BTEC First Diploma with a minimum of a merit grade.

Assessment

All units are internally assessed and graded at Pass, Merit or Distinction. On completion of the course an overall grade of a Pass, Merit or Distinction will be awarded.

  • Higher Education: A degree in any related subject.
  • Any Hospitality & Catering supervisory/ management training programme.

 

Further information

You will be involved in vocational based practical situations in our Award Winning College Restaurant, Cafe and kitchen areas. As part of the programme you will be involved in regular visits and work experience.

The College has links with major hospitality and catering organisations, locally and nationally. This will give you the exiting opportunities for work placements and future employment.
