Health & Social Care BTEC First Diploma at Northampton School for Girls

Course description

This subject is all coursework based and covers different aspects of Health and Social Care, including communication, Anatomy and Physiology, and the impact of diet on health.

Course content

You wil complete 6 different units and you will also be expected to undertake a work placement one day a week.Students will actively experience the Health and Social Care environment through community placement, case studies, research, interviews, discussions and independent learning.The two compulsory Units are 1) Communication and Individual Rights within the Health and Social Care Sectors, and 2) Individual Needs within the Health and Social Care Sectors.Students will also study four of the following optional units.  3) Vocational Experience in a Helath and Social Care Setting, 4) Cultural Diversity in Health and Social Care, 5) Anatomy and Physiology for Health and Social Care, 6) Human Lifespan Development, 7) creative and Therpaeutic Activities in Health and Social Care, 8) Health and Social Care Services, 9) The Impact of Diet on Health.

Entry requirements

Your qualifications should include at least 2 grade Ds at GCSE, one of which should be English.


All units will be assessed by means of assignments.

Financial information

Students will need to cover the costs of visits to employers.

Future opportunities

From this course you can enter employment in the Health and Social Care services or Health and Social Care courses at College.  BTEC First Diploma plus 1 GCSE at grade C or above is accepted as entry into University to study for a nursing diploma.

Further information

BTEC First Diploma is equivalent to four GCSE passes at C or above.
