Course description

The course is taught at the college or at a local sports club and will combine the theoretical aspects of sports with your practical skills. You will study a wide range of topics which will equip you with the necessary knowledge and skills to progress to higher education or employment

Course content

The course is focused on learning and understanding sports participation and performance through anatomy and physiology, sports coaching, fitness testing and training, sports management and a range of other sports related subjects. This range gives students the chance to choose a specialism for their future career or for their university course. Units include:

The course is assessed through a combination of practical theoretical assessment

Financial information

Full time courses are free to 16-18 year olds who are EU citizens

Future opportunities

Many students go on to study at university in subjects such as sports injuries, coaching and development, leisure and the fitness industry, sports management and media. With this qualification students may also choose to progress directly into the industry through Apprenticeships and full time employment
