The ESOL course runs for 1 year, from September to June, but it is possible for students to start throughout the year, depending on circumstances. The course is for people who speak English as a second language and who want to improve their language skills and achieve qualifications.
These programmes offer an opportunity to gain Cambridge University ESOL and OCR Functional Skills qualifications and also learn more about living in Goole and the UK.
There will be plenty of opportunities to join in activities across the college and students will benefit from tutorial sessions where progress and individual goals are discussed and support is offered.
English language classes will cover:
• Listening and Speaking
• Reading and Writing
• Grammar and Vocabulary
• Education, Health or Housing
• Citizenship and Culture
• Knowledge related to living andworking in Britain
Separate Functional Skills classes will help students develop their Maths and Information Technology skills, covering numeracy and finances, and students can gain recognised Maths and ICT qualifications.
There are no formal entry requirements
On successful completion of the full-time ESOL programme, there is an opportunity to progress onto a higher level of ESOL and/or another college course - vocational or mainstream, or onto higher education. Information, advice and guidance will be given to learners as required.
