Sociology A Level at The Norton Knatchbull School

Course description

Sociology is the study of society and people and their behaviour. It considers different relationships that we form, whether this be through education, the family or the wider world. A Level Sociology will give you a wider understanding of important aspects of society, and of how sociologists study and explain people’s behaviour. Sociology trains you to answer the ‘what’, ‘how’ and ‘why’ questions about human societies, giving you a competitive edge in the job market and providing a strong intellectual background for students considering careers in the professions or business.

It is a fascinating and ever changing topic that can lead to many different career paths including public relations, journalism, the police, education, research, health and welfare services, business.

 

Course content

A Level Sociology will give you a wider understanding of important aspects of society, and of how sociologists study and explain people’s behaviour. Entry requirements

GCSE Grade 6  in English

Assessment

Paper 1 - Education with Theory and Methods

Paper 2 - Topics in Sociology – One of Culture and Identity, Families and Households, Health or Work, Poverty and Welfare, then one of Beliefs in Society, Global Development or the Media

Paper 3 - Crime and Deviance with Theory and Methods 3 written examinations, each 2 hours long
