Business A Level at Upton Court Grammar School

Course description

Studying Business involves the investigation and analysis of all aspects of business objectives and strategic decisions, external influences facing business, marketing and marketing strategies, operational strategies, human resources, accounting and financial considerations and the global environment of business.

You will develop your business knowledge and enterprise skills, engrained in studying real life businesses, which will equip you with an understanding of how businesses are planned, set into motion, and managed to ensure maximum productivity and profitability.

The A Level focuses on contemporary business and industry and addresses topical business concerns. Educational visits are organised to further enhance student learning, for example; Thorpe Park, British Airways, Westfields, Start Up Monthly sessions through Creative Junction, Chartered Institute of Marketing, O2 and participation in the Young Enterprise Company Programme just to name a few.


The A Level examination has three written examinations. Paper 1 will assess Marketing, People and Global businesses. Questions will be drawn from Themes 1 and 4, and from local, national and glob al contexts. Paper 2 will assess Business Finance and Operations, Business Decisions and Strategy. Questions will be drawn from Themes 2 and 3, and from local, national and global contexts. Paper 3 will assess content across all four themes. Questions will be drawn from local, national and global contexts. For Paper 3, there will be a pre - released context document issued. There is no coursework, though regular reading and viewing of quality news sources is highly beneficial and is strongly encouraged.
