Outdoor Adventure - BTEC (single, double & triple) at Baxter College

Course description

This course is ideally for anyone wishing to pursue a career in the sport and active leisure or outdoor activities industry. Outdoor activities courses provide students with an opportunity to take part in and specialise in activity instruction such as kayaking, raft building, canoeing, archery, rock climbing, abseiling, horse riding, mountain biking, mountain leaders. 

If you have a keen interest in the outdoors and are up for a challenge this is the course for you! 

Content Units of Study

SINGLE AWARD 

BTEC NATIONAL SUBSIDIARY DIPLOMA- is equivalent to one GCE A level. 
It is a 60-credit and 360 guided-learning-hour (GLH) qualification that consists of mandatory units plus optional units. 

DOUBLE AWARD 

BTEC NATIONAL DIPLOMA- is equivalent to two GCE A levels. 
It is a 120-credit and 720 guided-learning-hour (GLH) qualification that consists of mandatory units plus optional units that provide for a combined total of 120 credits. For the double award there will be more units for pupils to complete in comparison to the single award. 

TRIPLE AWARD 

BTEC NATIONAL EXTENDED DIPLOMA- is equivalent to three GCE A levels. 
It is a 180-credit and 1080 guided-learning-hour (GLH) qualification that consists of mandatory units plus optional units that provide for a combined total of 180 credits. For the double award there will be more units for pupils to complete in comparison to the single award. 

Progression

A wide variety of health and fitness, sports based careers as well as teaching, outdoor education and much more. It is accepted by most universities too.

Work Placement

A work experience placement at an appropriate sporting venue.

Entry requirements

To be accepted on this course you will need a good attendance and punctuality record, preferably 5 GCSEs grade A*-C. It is not a requirement that you have studied Sport before, but you should have a keen interest in sport and physical education.
