Business A Level at The Hazeley Academy
The Pearson Edexcel Level 3 Advanced GCE in Business is structured into four Themes and consists of three externally examined papers.
You will be introduced to business in Themes 1 and 2 through building knowledge of core business concepts and applying them to business contexts to develop a broad understanding of how businesses work. Breadth and depth of knowledge and understanding, with applications to a wider range of contexts and more complex business information, are developed in Themes 3 and 4, requiring students to take a more strategic view of business opportunities and issues. Students are encouraged to use an enquiring, critical and thoughtful approach to the study of business, to understand that business behaviour can be studied from a range of perspectives and to challenge assumptions.
This is a de-coupled qualification, students will have the opportunity to take their AS at the end of Year 12 and the A Level at the end of Year 13.
Preferably, students should have a minimum grade of a B in GCSE Business Studies, however, it is not a prerequisite to have GCSE Business Studies, so in these circumstances your English and Maths grades will be taken into account.
There are six specialist pathways consisting of Finance, Management, Marketing, Law, Administration and Human Resources. The assessment approach allows learners to receive feedback on their progress throughout the course as they provide evidence towards the assessment and grading criterion.
Business Studies by its very nature develops in students a broad and varied skill base, increasingly sought by employers. This will prove equally useful to those entering employment or continuing to higher education. Future openings may include PR and advertising, the legal profession, accountancy, sales and marketing, international banking and numerous management positions.
