Music at Cardinal Newman Catholic School

Course description

A-level music is exciting, stimulating and challenging. You will develop your musicianship through the study of performing, composing, listening and understanding. You can focus on performing either as a solo musician, or as part of a group, or a combination and you will have the opportunity to take part in a varied range of performances. These include our annual musical production, our tour, the ‘Jazz and Pop Evening’ and the ‘Evening of Celebration’ at The Brighton Dome.

You will also explore composing techniques using live instruments and music technology recording within our professional studio. This is a Mac Suite equipped with Sibelius, Logic and Garage Band. You will develop your understanding of music theory by listening to, exploring and analysing a wide range of set works including classical and popular instrumental and vocal music. Students are able to study both Music and Music Technology. For A-level Music you should be able to perform at grade 5 level or equivalent and are strongly encouraged to gain Grade 5 theory.

The equivalent of atleast five GCSEs at grade C or above
