Introduction to Health and Social Care and Children’s and Young Peoples Settings BTEC Level 1 Certificate at Bedford College

Course description

This course will give you the chance to explore opportunities offered in the health, social care and child care sectors, and develop the personal skills and qualifies you need for work and learning. It will give you the chance to explore the opportunities offered in the health and social care sector whilst being taught by vocationally trained experts.

Course content

You will cover a range of units:

  • Range of Services
  • Person Centred Planning
  • Equality & Inclusion
  • Protection & Safeguarding.

 

You will also study Personal & Social Development that will give you essential skills for employment. You will have the opportunity to attend work placements in health & social care settings and childcare settings. You will also have the opportunity to go on an educational trip that will be related to your studies.

Entry requirements

To start you will need a genuine interest in and commitment to the childcare or health & social care industry. Some evidence of studying at GCSE level would be an advantage.

Assessment

A wide variety of study methods are used throughout the course and emphasis is on student centred learning with a practical approach to problem solving. Teaching methods include lectures, discussions, seminars, role play, group work, guided study and practical classes. You will also have the opportunity to experience a variety of work placements. All subjects are assessed continuously through a variety of methods, with no final exam.

Financial information

This course could be free! You will be eligible if you are aged 19 or over on the 31st August of the year you are starting your course and are actively seeking employment and in receipt of a means tested benefit (such as job seekers, housing benefit, council tax benefit). Please note you will need to be able to produce evidence of the benefit in your name when you come to enrol.

Future opportunities

On successful completion of achieving an overall Pass, you can progress on to Health & Social Care Level 2 or Childcare Level 2.

Further information

You will be required to pay £36 for required clothing, £20 for books and £54 for any trips/visits.
