Physics A Level at Guildford College

Course description

Physics is the science of the universe, from sub-atomic particles to galaxies and black holes. It’s also the basis for engineering, weather forecasting, medical imaging, satellite communication and much more.

 

Course content

Topics include

  • mechanics
  • electricity
  • waves
  • quantum effects
  • gravity and orbits
  • electric fields and capacitators
  • thermal physics and global warming
  • nuclear and astro physics.

Entry requirements

BB in Science, B in Physics (not chemistry) and B in Maths GCSEs.

 

Assessment

80% exam and 20% practical.

Financial information

There will be at least one external visit/event organised during each year, at minimal cost. Visits to the University may be cost-free. Any more costly events will be voluntary. Students are expected to purchase text books which are currently around £18 each.

Future opportunities

You could move on to degrees in physics or astrophysics, engineering, optometry, architecture, computing, finance and many others.
