Access to Further Education (ESOL) City and Guilds Diploma at Guildford College

Course description

If English is not your main language, you can take the ESOL Access to FE course to help you improve and progress onto a vocational or academic course you are interested in. Our ESOL courses can:

  • Help you gain a recognised English language certificate.
  • Develop your English so that you can successfully live, work or study in the UK.
  • Help prepare you to become a British citizen (please let us know at enrolment if you are interested in this)
  • Enable you to progress onto a relevant vocational or academic course at Guildford College.

This is a one year, full-time course, which also includes additional studies in Maths. Students who successfully complete this course will have the opportunity to apply for courses at the College, including participating in taster sessions of their chosen courses.

Course content

The courses cover all aspects of English:

  • speaking and listening,
  • reading
  • writing
  • pronunciation
  • vocabulary and grammar.

The courses are general English but attention is paid, in higher level classes, to English for work/business/study; including: going to interviews, giving presentations, writing CV’s, cover letters, report writing, discussing topics etc.

Entry requirements

Anyone who's first language is not English and who is interested in progressing onto a vocational or academic course to gain further qualifications.

Application followed by individual interview.

Assessment

There will be examinations in: Speaking and Listening Reading Writing
