Health & Social Care BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma at Chelmsford College

Course description

This course consists of core units and a number of specialist units which include nutrition, public health, psychology, sociology, dementia care and anatomy and physiology; providing key knowledge and the practical caring skills for a wide range of care environments. Work experience in a variety of settings each year is a compulsory part of this course.

Entry requirements

Entry Requirements:

A minimum of 4 GCSEs grade C or above or a pass grade at a relevant Level 2 vocational course.


Specific Entry Requirements:

GCSE English language grade C or above. You must also hold a clear fully enhanced DBS check.


Currently there are no external examinations; all units are assessed by internal assignments, presentations, tests and practical activities.

Future opportunities

This qualification will allow full time learners to gain a nationally recognised vocationally specific qualification enabling learners to enter employment in the care sector or progress to university degree courses e.g. nursing, social work, midwifery, paramedic etc.

      The campus also houses a Learning Centre, Skills Development Centre, Assessment Centre, Tutorial Centre, a Copyshop and Refectory. Situated on the grounds of this campus are Dovedale Nursery and Dovedale Sports Centre.
