Theatre Studies AS A2 at Thomas Becket Catholic School
Introduction Ø BackgroundCourses in Drama and Theatre Arts are offered at AS and A level. These courses offer the opportunity to study text from first reading to performance, theatrical practitioners, theatrical criticism and, of course, practical performance and technical skills. The AS course includes the study of two texts, one practitioner, performance review and improvised / devised practical work. The A2 course includes the study of two texts, one practitioner, commentary and analysis, and scripted practical work. You will have the opportunity to become familiar with all the theatrical arts from the technical elements such as lighting, to performance. All the theoretical work stems from, or leads to practical work but you need to realise that there is a heavy written workload in addition to the practical. You will be expected to commit some of your free time to practical rehearsals and presentations. Ø The student Theatre Studies is for you if you wish to develop these specific skills, either generally or with a view to a career in the theatre. If you would like to take a subject that is very varied in approach then you should consider Theatre Studies.
