Health and Social Care at Blackfen School for Girls

Course description

The course provides knowledge and understanding of skills needed to work or study in the caring sector. There is a chance to apply theory to practice with the coursework, plus learn about a variety of conditions and diseases for the examined unit. In year 13 you will learn about two job roles and an extensive range of tests and diagnostic techniques.

 

Course content

Year 1

Unit 1 – Effective care and communication

Unit 2 – Exam Understanding Health conditions and patient care pathways

Year 2

Unit 6 –Practitioner roles

Unit 10 – Diagnosis. Treatment and preventative strategies

 

Entry requirements

GCSE grade B in Health & Social Care (if studied) and C in Core Science.

 

Assessment

Year 1 Coursework 50% based on a Health and social care

Placement. Exam 50%  1 hour 30 mins.

Year 2 Coursework 50% based on two chosen job roles. Exam 50% 2 hours

 

Future opportunities

Health care jobs including nursing, midwifery, child care, social work, Primary teaching and support worker
