Theatre Studies AS/A2 Level at The Bishops' Blue Coat CofE High School
The course provides the student with the opportunity to promote an enjoyment of and interest in Drama and Theatre both as a participant and as an informed member of an audience. Students will extend their skills, knowledge and understanding needed to communicate through Drama and Theatre, encouraging life-long learning and providing access to drama, theatre and related careers.
AS The study and workshop of two plays, practically explored with written notes. Written evaluation of a live performance monologue/duologue performance or design realisation group performance or design realisation
A2 Creation and performance or design of original piece of drama, External assessment: 2½ hour written examination on a set text and historical performance conditions
To undertake this course, students should have a minimum of grade C in English language, preferably a B. It is not necessary to have taken Drama at GCSE level, but it is preferred. It is important that you are interested in gaining a greater understanding of how theatre and plays work, and that you are keen to be involved with performances.
AS Unit 1 - 20% Coursework (practical and written), Unit 2 - 30% Practical Examination
A2 Unit 3 - 20% Coursework (practical and written), Unit 4 - 30% Written Examination
Employers look to recruit individuals who are confident and articulate. They also look for people who are capable of working effectively as part of a team, creating an end product efficiently. These skills are developed through Theatre Studies.
