Photography A level at Monks Walk School
Photography, lens and light-based media includes work in film, video, digital imaging and light-sensitive materials. Sometimes, techniques and processes are used to convey messages and create works related to other disciplines, such as web-based animations, photographic images in printed journals and light projections within spaces. Students will employ creative approaches, which go beyond mere observation and recording towards producing creative and exciting visual work(s).
In the context of the course, disciplines will include digital photography, film and/or video. Students will be required to work in one or more of these disciplines. The course is made of 60% portfolio and 40% externally set assignment.
A*- B GCSE in Art or related subject, and/or a high quality portfolio. GCSE C or above in English. APS: 40 or above.
Students are assessed through their sketchbooks and studio-based artwork, as well as a written and illustrated personal study towards the end of the second year. The personal study will, through the research of recognised artists and/or art movements, form the basis of each student’s own creative journey and resultant artwork.
This course crucially enables students to keep their creative options open, and is therefore very effective in preparation for access to colleges and universities, both locally and nationally.
