Chemistry AS/A2 Level at BSix Brooke House Sixth Form College

Course description

Lessons are taught in an interactive style.  Students are expected to participate in different activities such as group and pair work, peer and self-assessment and practical chemistry investigations.  These will involve discussions with your fellow students and your teacher to enable you to come to a deep understanding of the concepts involved in chemistry.

Course content

AS Chemistry is a one year standalone course consisting of 4 modules.  Practical skills are an essential part of chemistry education and the first module will focus on developing these, followed by essential knowledge of chemical reactions, the Periodic Table and core organic chemistry.  There will be two exams at the end of the year and both papers will test modules 1 to 4. June 2016 will be the first time these papers are sat.

A Level Chemistry will be taught over two years and consists of 6 modules, the four above plus two more; physical chemistry and transition elements and organic chemistry and analysis.  There will also be a practical endorsement associated with the A Level which is not part of the AS level.  There are three exams for the A Level and the first cohort to sit these exams will be in June 2017.
