English, IGCSE at Christ The King College
The course consists of 3 core units:
Unit 1: Understanding and Producing Non-Fiction Texts
This is the examined part of the course and is worth 40% of the grade. In the exam, students have to respond to a range of unseen texts to test their reading, and produce pieces of non-fiction writing based on tasks set by the exam board.
Unit 2: Speaking and Listening
This is part of the controlled assessments and students will be assessed on presenting, discussing, listening and role playing.
Unit 3: Understanding Spoken and Written Texts and Writing Creatively
This is the other part of the controlled assessment and is split into the following sections:
Part A: Extended Reading - a text will be studied and an essay will be produced on it
Part B: Creative Writing - two pieces of creative writing will be produced form a choice of titles
Part C: Spoken Language Study: students will focus on how language is used when speaking
